A Grateful Gift…
This week in January marks the very first annual Veterinary Staff Appreciation Week! This acknowledgment is such a wonderful thing for a dedicated extended family. Where would we be without them? I shudder to think about it. Veterinary staff includes the patient and caring receptionists, the loving and efficient assistants, the oft over-looked but hard working kennel staff, and the behind the scenes crews that make sure all medications and diets are in stock, paperwork is up to date, and social media is making an impact outside the walls.
We are incredibly blessed to have staff that have contributed to this veterinary family for over 25 years as well as staff that have jumped right into our family in the past year. Several of the staff have grown up with the clients, laughed and cried with them as babies came, spouses passed, family moved, and pets aged. Our clients really have become like family to us because of our staff, it is an incredible to gift to be invited into and included in so many families. But, really, it is just a testament to the amazing ladies that come to care here (it’s not work for them) every day.
The ladies in this building work tirelessly and very long hours away from family and their pets because they just want to be able to help as many people as possible, often times working through lunch, misses bathroom breaks, and putting other events on hold. You often hear someone ask if we can just work one more patient in or can we help one more pet that’s sick. Sometimes, they even give until it hurts… crying right along when a beloved pet is hurt, sick, or can no longer go on. There are celebrations for new furry friends, growing along with them, and then the feel of the aches and pains of seniorhood. Most days when the last item is cleaned and put away and it’s time to go home for the night it’s time to compare new war wounds from an attack cat, play guess that odor or stain, suture a new rip in the scrub top, or just dream about a warm bath to soak the over used muscles. These ladies give it their all; all day long, all year long.
Givers, each and everyone is a giver. They give smiles, they give love, and they give their heart and soul to each and every one who comes through the door. This place is special indeed, not just for the level of care we can give but because of the people who give it. Please thank them today. They may not diagnose the problems or prescribe the perfect medication to cure what ails, they may not perform the diagnostics or triage the emergency, but this place could not function without them. We could not be here without our heart and soul. We are grateful and blessed!!!
